Kanu: Koihime Musou by Giga Pulse Review

Gorgeous paint work on her assets.

This being my first figure from Giga Pulse I was somewhat sceptical of the quality. I loved the look of the figure from the get go. The initial shots I saw of the design were awesome. I just loved the pose, the look of the eyes and the overall aesthetics. The eyes in particular were true to the Koihime Muso series with the typical dark thick outline on the bottom eye-lid. Anyway, when I received the figure it was even better than I had hoped. She is delightful and beautifuly designed. Now on the the con's. The paintwork is not brilliant. There is one place in particular where the paint job on her "pulled-over" white top, exposing her considerable and might I say gorgeous assets, overflowes on her skin. It's not a huge problem but on close inspection it is clearly visible. The green and gold colors of her waist coat aren't that great either but where these colors fall short the tone and shading of the skin is gorgeous. Her nipples in particular are very nicely done and the fade in is perfect, in fact the nipples even seem textured they look so good. Her eyes are nicely done too although her hair could have been done better. All in all I am very happy with Kanu, the fact that she is nicely presented and the paint the job is better than expected makes the purchase all the more sweeter.

Excession-Iain M Banks

I just finished Excession, being my second "Culture" novel after the spectacular Consider Phlebas. The book is typical of Banks's style and flair along with his mind numbing descriptions that leave the reader with a sense of the sublime. I found Excession to be less character focused or perhaps the problem was that there were too many characters and I felt it somewhat difficult to find myself invested in one or the other to the point where I cared significantly for their fates. The closest I came to genuine concern was for a "Culture" warship who on its own attacked the fleet of "enemy" craft in a heroic display of guts, bravery and determination (fuelled by revenge albeit). I was certain that the ship would be annhilated and was praying with each sentence that this wouldn't be the case. I'll leave the outcome of this encounter up to future readers to find out.

The "excession affair" takes place hundreds of years after the Idiran-Culture War and we no longer have someone like Borza Horza Gobuchel to root for, or even Culture agent Perosteck Balveda. Here the antagonists are plural, and consist of the strange entity the Excession, along with a web of conspirators who have their own plans regarding the appearance of the anomaly. The protagonists are those that have been caught up in the whole affair without really knowing what they were getting themselves into. The novel fails to live up to the ending which is driven to what we expect to be a spectacular conclusion and unfortunately falls short of "blowing" the reader away.

All in all the novel is great! Not as involving as Consider Phlebas but, involving enough to have me scrambling for my next "Culture" novel which is Use of Weapons.

A Perfect Circle-Blue

I am really into this track from "The Thirteeth Step" by A Perfect Circle. Lyrics below...

I didn't want to know
I just didn't want to know
Best to keep things in the shallow end
Cause I never quite learned how to swim
I just didn't want to knowDidn't want (x4)

Close my eyes just to look at you
Taken by the seamless vision
I close my eyes
Ignore the smoke (x3)

Call an optimist, she's turning blue
Such a lovely color for you
Call an optimist, she's turning blue
While I just sit and stare at you

Because I don't want to knowI didn't want to know
I just didn't want to knowI just didn't want

Mistook their nods for an approval
Just ignore the smoke and smile

Call it aftermath, she's turning blue
Such a lovely color for you
Call it aftermath, she's turning blue
Such a perfect color for your eyes
Call it aftermath, she's turning blue
Such a lovely color for you
Call it aftermath, she's turning blue
While I just sit and stare at youI don't want to know
